When Ruby woke up and looked out of the window, everything was white. Snow had fallen during the night. The garden, the street, the rooftops — everything was covered in a thick blanket of snow. Ruby got dressed as fast as she could. She put on her warmest coat, her woolly hat and her red wellies. Her brother Max was already outside. He was rolling a huge snowball across the lawn. Together, they built a snowman. Ruby found two stones for the eyes and a carrot for the nose. Max wrapped his scarf around its neck. The snowman looked very smart. Then they had a snowball fight. Ruby was a brilliant thrower. She hit Max three times before he could even make his first snowball. After a while, their fingers were freezing and their cheeks were red. Mum called them inside for hot chocolate with marshmallows. They sat by the window, warming their hands on the mugs, watching the snow still falling gently outside. Max said he hoped the snowman would still be there in the morning. Ruby smiled. She knew it would be.
