Robot path

Guide the robot to the charging station, picking up every battery on the way.

The robot must collect every battery, then dock at the charging station.

Step 1: pick how you want to play (arrows or forward/turn, live or as a program).
Step 2: collect all the batteries without bumping into walls.
Step 3: finish on the charging station to win the challenge.

The robot walks forward or rotates in place. Closer to a real program.

When does the robot move?

Stack instructions, then press Run. Best to think ahead.

Kindergarten
- Build basic spatial awareness on a grid: up, down, left, right.
- Predict how a character moves, one cell at a time.
Grade 1
- Plan a path with a forced detour (wall, battery to pick up).
- Understand a route as an ordered sequence of actions.

- Discover sequential programming: forward, turn left, turn right.
- Anticipate the robot's path before pressing 'Run'.

- Tackle longer paths and debug a sequence by trial and error.
- Distinguish left and right from the robot's point of view.

- Save steps by spotting the shortest path.
- Say the algorithm out loud before coding it.

- Reason on larger grids with obstacles and several batteries to collect.
- Prepare for middle-school algorithms (loops, sequences).

About this activity

Program a robot to collect all batteries then reach its charging station. Two control modes: cardinal arrows (kindergarten / 1st grade) or forward / turn (2nd grade+), either with one-tap moves or a deferred program.
